Jamila Rice

she/her

Jamila Rice is a southwest Fresno native who came up organizing in the community as a youth. As the membership director, she is working to empower California’s youth to see themselves as agents of change in their communities.

Her early commitment to movement work stems from realizing that her school and community needed radical transformation beyond policies that harm black and brown youth and families.

Jamila worked as a Capacity Building Manager with Californians for Justice, helping transform LBUSD and FUSD into equitable places of learning. Jamila hit the ground running as a youth organizer in Long Beach, helping implement LBUSD’s first Equity and Inclusion Design Team aligning the vision of students and teachers to uncover deeply rooted equity dilemmas in school. While organizing in Fresno, she assisted in launching the Rebuild & Reimagine: A Vision for Racially Just Schools Campaign winning youth lead and centered curriculum assessment to ensure BIPOC students can see their identities reflected in the FUSD curriculum.

Jamila loves live music, camping, and being a fur parent to her dog Bella.
