Albert Tobias

Albert was born and raised in Eastside, San Jose, the son of Mexican and Salvadorian immigrants. He first stepped into organizing as a high school student with Californians for Justice after seeing the impacts of the Great Recession on his community and the education system. After, he attended San Francisco State University, majoring in Mathematics and minoring in Latina/o studies. During this time at SFSU, his analysis was influenced by the Xicano, Queer, and anticapitalist organizing communities he was a part of.

He returned to San Jose and Californians for Justice, working as a youth organizer and then as Statewide Campaigns Manager leading their civic engagement department. Most recently, he worked at M+R Strategic Services, crafting digital strategies, volunteer pipelines, and programming for organizations working on abortion access and abolition nationally.

In his free time, he enjoys cooking, especially anything from America’s Test Kitchen, visiting his mother in Tijuana (and eating tacos), and cuddling with his doggie roommates Fidel & Clifford.
